2019 Malbec, 750ml, 13.6%

Winemaker Notes: We started playing around with Malbec a few years ago, first as an additional component for our “Arsenal”, and then as the co-ferment partner with Cabernet Franc in our “La Battalla.”  We loved the Malbec lots, and when we were able to source some from the old vines at Wooldridge Creek Vineyard, it felt like a good time to make a bit on its own. The vines at Wooldridge Creek are planted on their own roots in a milder part of the Applegate.  The fruit tends towards balance, with higher acids being the norm.  

Tasting Notes: Dark chocolate covered cherries predominate.  Smooth and silky texture finishes with balanced acidity.  This would make a fabulous food pairing option.  

Fruit Handling: 50%-70% whole berry, cold soaked 48 hrs.  

Fermentation: Fermented in small, 1 ton and 2 ton tanks, punched down, gently pressed at 0 B.  

Aging: Aged in large, 98 gal, and 58 gal French Oak barrels.  Demptos, Meyrieux and Francois Freres, 25% new.  75% 1-3 yr. old.  Lees stirred regularly throughout the first quarter.  Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
